Song Review: The Kid Laroi ‘Stay’ With Justin Bieber

The Kid LAROI had a bit of a blurry appearance in the music world if you went by the Hot 100s alone. His first song in 2020, “Go,” was a collaboration with Juice WRLD as a trap beat that didn’t really stand out that much. He began climbing the charts and hit the top 10 with the help of Miley Cyrus and the song “Without You.” This song isn’t basssic hip-hop that mimics the current trend of guitars in songs. It’s more of a punky ballad with The Kid LAROI singing instead of just rapping.

He teamed up with Justin Bieber on the album Justice and produced one of the biggest songs of 2021.

Stay

The song “Stay” is meant to be a hit from its pulsating and synth layered RNB sound that intoxicates its listeners, paired with an amazing lyrical exploration. The song focuses on two different perspectives about being in love and wanting to do everything for that person.

Bieber sings about his loyalty, while LAROI’s acknowledges his mess-ups but is asking the other person to stay and let him make things better.

Immense success

The song has spent several weeks at the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100. A large part of the fame can be said to be achieved because of Justin Bieber’s smooth pop vocals that rounded out the roughness of the song.

The upbeat anthem will tug on any listener’s heartstrings, and while neither of the stars are strangers to love songs, the new bop has taken the world by storm due to its catchy lyrics and head-bopping tune.

Critical reception

The 17-year-old Australian rapper wasn’t afraid of opening up about his parental issues in his other songs. However, “Stay” is comparatively just a vague song with uninspired lyrics about heartbreak. Overall, LAROI is growing as an artist, and his talent and skills are undeniable, but we’d love to see him create tracks where he’s truer to himself and his story.
