Five years after We Are Young Money comes another collection from Lil Wayne's imprint. A lot has changed. While YM's Drake and Nicki Minaj make clear how lucky they are to have the label, this weak set shows how lucky Young Money is to still have them.

This time out, we’re introduced to a charming talkrapper named Euro and not much else beyond some diverse but mundane urban contemporary music dominated by familiar players.

Young Money: Rise of an Empire isn’t perfect, but it does enough to show the momentum won’t speed or slow up for nobody and that’s justifiable enough in itself.

Unfortunately, the new album doesn't hint they will ever achieve it.

Rise Of An Empire doesn’t carve out a lane for its lesser-known artists to excel it simply reminds us that Young Money’s pillars have outgrown the brand. Without them, the brand is a shell of itself.

He may be part of an empire now, but it’s looking more and more like Rome in decline.

Rise of an Empire is likely only a bit of a disappointment because it opens so strongly and refuses to become outright terrible.

Rise of an Empire isn’t as ‘wonderfully made’ you might say – it has some…umm…yeah, just read on!

You hear beats, and rhymes, but rarely does any of it resonate or stick with you. It’s an album that just kind of happens whether you are paying attention to it or not. And then it’s over, you too may find yourself saying, “Oh, so that’s it?”

It's time to admit that if anything happens to Wayne, a Lil Twist solo album isn't much of a contingency plan.

Call it a wobbly when it comes to quality, or a showcase for the young that's stolen by the old, but it's best to consider it a simple roster-promoting label compilation that just happens to come with an EP or so worth of fire.

Two songs stand out, but the rest of the album just feels like a weak mixtape thrown together to promote unity amongst the unpopular artist left on the YM roster like Jae Millz, Gudda Gudda, Lil Twist, and new comer Euro to name a few

Rise of An Empire unfortunately doesn’t even come close to We Are Young Money. It is a tolerable album.

In the end, I don't know what to make of this record, as it has maybe one good song courtesy of Drake that feels like it shouldn't even be on this record. Outside of that, there's very little here that's worth recommending at all.
