Critic Reviews
Show All-
Rolling Stone
October 18, 2000. Morrison’s third record in less than two years is earthy, barreling blues, R&B and country-tinged roots rock, all delivered with enough gusto to strip the enamel right off your teeth.
-
No Depression
November 1, 2000. At its ragged best, You Win Again delivers raucous fun. There must still be room for records like this, imperfect as it is. ‘Cause at its best, it’s a killer.
-
All Music
No, it's not a major work in Van's catalog, but it's hard not to smile when listening to it, just like The Skiffle Sessions. It's a roots effort that never sounds studied -- just easy, welcoming, and thoroughly enjoyable.
-
Exclaim!
February 1, 2001. You Win Again is how he used to make albums, and fans can only hope some of its energy will rub off on his future projects.
-
Country Standard Time
Though over half the playlist is drawn from JLL's catalog, this is less a tribute than a truly satisfying roots revival disc with a lot of sex appeal.

Sunshine Coast Van Fans
June 22, 2016. It is raw, rough and almost falls apart but it does have a real kick. Apart from that , whether up or downtempo, the results are never more than competent.
-
RootsWorld
These two veteran performers churn out a collection of boozy country classics that will be sure to fill any barroom dance floor. . . . Bottom line is, if you're a Van fan, you will probably want You Win Again in your collection.

Entertainment
October 6, 2000. At 55, Van Morrison’s coasting, but the great singer can make enjoyable music without breaking a sweat. Case in point: You Win Again, a CD of duets with Jerry Lee Lewis’ kid sister Linda Gail Lewis on vocals and 88’s.

Jim Trageser Music Review
October 15, 2000. . . . done in partnership with Jerry Lee Lewis' piano-playing kid sister Linda Gail, such a surprise and delight: It's an ode to the country-western and blues that inspired Morrison growing up in Belfast in the late '40s and '50s.
