Ultimately, this is easily the finest outing by modern country's most relevant duo; it rocks, it's soulful, and it's memorable.

Give the boys credit: Not only did they successfully put two songwriters in the producer's chair, they take southern rock deep into the heart of country music. Where Marty Stuart, Travis Tritt and Andy Griggs have dabbled in southern rock, Montgomery Gentry unleash it in a torrent of brash lyrics, wailing guitars and pounding percussion.

Overall You Do Your Thing is a solid release. Quite possibly Montgomery Gentry's best to date. Really sensational from beginning to end. If you're even mildly into Contemporary Country music you'll enjoy this album.

Celebrating the classic Southern virtues of unflinching patriotism and small-town pride, the duo puts a positive spin on the redneck-rebel image of artists like Lynyrd Skynyrd and Hank Williams Jr., delivering a sound that's equally at home in the barn dance and the biker bar. On YOU DO YOUR THING, Montgomery Gentry brings its down-home sentiments even closer to the fore.

While the group often gets pigeonholed as a couple of plain-spoken rednecks, You Do Your Thing contains several songs that display a sensitivity and sincerity that's rare in country music.
