Rock NYC
There seems to be no reason for it, and it is hard to recommend it
-
A Pop Life
The album starts off with the beautiful Xhalation ... The rest of the songs are nice, but not really earth shattering.
-
Stereogum
The man's proven good company for a long while, and his elliptical xcursions are just part of the conversation.
-
The Guardian
Nine mellow instrumental jazz cuts, all beginning with ‘X’, released as a download in one of Prince’s “actually, I like the internet” moods. Much cooler than it has any right to be.

Goldie's Parade
For the first time as a fan I felt Prince embark on a musical trajectory I had no wish to accompany him on.

Wilson & Alroy's Record Reviews
and the project tends to sound better the closer to funk it gets ("Xpand"), but I must admit, I love to hear Prince keep trying to play jazz when so many other forms of music come so much more easily to him: he's not sticking to his comfort zone, and that ought to count for something.
