X&Y

X&Y (stylized as X & Y) is the third studio album by the British rock band Coldplay. It was released on 6 June 2005 by Parlophone in the United Kingdom, and a day later by Capitol Records in the United States. The album was produced by Coldplay and producer Danton Supple. It is noted for its troubled and urgent development, with producer Ken Nelson having originally been tasked with producing much of the album; however, many songs written during his sessions were discarded owing to the band's dissatisfaction with them. The album's cover art is a combination of colours and blocks, which is a representation of the Baudot code. -WIKIPEDIA

X&Y; is bland but never offensive, listenable but not memorable.

By no measure is it a good album, let alone the foray into legend-in-the-making status it has been marketed as.

The fans will love it, the band's popularity will grow even more, and EMI can rest easy.

It becomes very hard to believe that with 50 songs and 3 years, this is the best they could give us.

Coldplay always said 'X&Y;' was their shot at making the perfect album. They've come damn close - the next one could be life changing.

Chris Martin is one repressed, neurotic pop star. But his angst pays off on X&Y.

Contains plenty of raw vulnerability delivered by way of ethereal rock melodies.

It is not a masterpiece, but it’s not the insipid slab of generic, big-budget rock that it’s made out to be.

Once you start trying to write hits, you're in trouble. It's a warning Coldplay may want to heed next time round.

This is probably the weakest of the 3 Coldplay albums so far, but it's not for a lack of trying.

Still interested in getting on the Coldplay bandwagon? There's still some room left towards the back, and X&Y is as good a stop as any to hop on.

Sadly, the majority of X&Y will simply melt into a bland radio rock amalgam, long forgotten when they release a Best-of.
