| The Beatleswith the beatles
With the Beatles is the second studio album by the English rock band the Beatles. It was released on 22 November 1963, on Parlophone, and was recorded four months after the band's debut Please Please Me. The album features eight original compositions (seven by Lennon McCartney and "Don't Bother Me", George Harrison's first recorded solo composition and his first released on a Beatles album) and six covers (mostly of Motown, rock and roll, and R&B hits). The cover photograph was taken by the fashion photographer Robert Freeman, and it has been mimicked by several music groups over the years. -Wikipedia

Pitchfork
2009 - this quickie sequel doesn't match its predecessor but doesn't cheat fans either
-
The telegraph
2009 - With The Beatles sees the band playing with a kind of rough-house energy.
-
Consequence of Sound
2009 - still miles ahead of a good portion of current pop music

All Music
Still, the heart of With the Beatles lies not in the covers, but the originals, where it was clear that, even at this early stage, the Beatles were rapidly maturing and changing, turning into expert craftsmen and musical innovators.

Record Collector Magazine
Here’s the proof that The Beatles might be sustainably good; in fact very good indeed. One hopes they will be with us for a year or two yet.
-
Adrian's Music Reviews
The Beatles weren't yet writing too many classic songs but that would come later.
-
Starling
Probably their weakest studio effort.
-
Wilson & Alroy's Record Review
the band was always remarkably competent even when covering the most vapid material
-
Wilson & Alroy's Record Review
there are still lots of covers, but the originals are well-crafted and tuneful
-
Only Solitaire
it is more than just a pop album, more than just 'shallow fluff'. It's got a bite to it, and a rather disturbing one for 1963.
-
Neon Modern Times
The covers are enjoyable throwaways but the original songs are great
