    1974 - The rest of the album is in the basic Clearwater mode, but with considerably more variation and imagination than Creedence has previously produced. There are probably six hit singles on the album

    the majority of the songs on "Willy and the Poor Boys" have an easy, almost tranquil aesthetic – suggesting a ragtag band playing country shuffles, bluesy boogie woogie and Leadbelly covers out on the back porch or, perhaps, down on the corner

    apart from Fortunate Son still being amazing, it’s that Creedence Clearwater Revival are so much bigger and better than their hits. The masterful story telling on Midnight Special, the shredding guitar instrumental of Side O’ the Road, the darkness of Effigy.
