WE SHALL OVERCOME THE SEEGER SESSIONS

This is Springsteen's first and so far only album of entirely non-Springsteen material and contains his interpretation of thirteen folk music songs made popular by activist folk musician Pete Seeger. As an activist and artist of folk music, Seeger did not write any of the songs on the album. His life's work focused on popularizing and promoting the ethic of local, historical musical influences and recognizing the cultural significance that folk music embodies. -wikipedia

These songs, so comfortable in the gentle embrace of Seeger’s soothing voice, erupt in towering plumes of vitality as Springsteen growls and shouts his way through raucous renditions of normally more placid tunes.

The Seeger Sessions captures the Boss and friends—on guitar, fiddle, piano, upright bass, accordion, washboard, tuba, trombone, banjo and mandolin—playing with joy, passion and apparently plenty of lubrication.

What's especially enjoyable about the album is the organic interplay of musicians running through a peck of songs from the folk canon so spontaneously and unselfconsciously, creating magic on the fly.
