WARNING:

Warning (stylized as WARNING: ) is the sixth studio album by American punk rock band Green Day, released on October 3, 2000 by Reprise Records. Building upon its predecessor, Nimrod (1997), the album eschewed the band's trademark punk rock sound and incorporated acoustic elements and pop and folk styles. Lyrically, the record contains more optimistic and inspirational themes in comparison with the band's earlier releases. Warning was also Green Day's first album since Kerplunk (1991) that was not produced by Rob Cavallo, although he did have a hand in its production and was credited as executive producer. --Wikipedia

The California trio’s sixth album, invites the question: Who wants to listen to songs of faith, hope and social commentary from what used to be snot-core’s biggest-selling band?

Older. More Mature. 'Warning' is the sound of a band losing its way.

  • All Music

It may not be an innovative record per se, but it's tremendously satisfying; it finds the band at a peak of songcraft and performance, doing it all without a trace of self-consciousness. It's the first great pure pop album of the new millennium.

Green Day is not just a punk rock band, they are the embodiment of "Punk Rock" in the year 2000. After "Warning," this band can only get better.

The album displays just how well Green Day can construct pop songs, but it also shows that their relevance might be waning in spite of their longevity.

Real old school punks know that punk is about following your own path, and that's just what Green Day are doing.

Although Green Day's latest effort is an enjoyable listen, in the end it fails to leave much of a lasting impression.

After listening to Warning, it's so obvious that they feel no pressure to impress anyone. These guys are actually having fun as musicians, and as a result the music isn't forced or politically correct.

Unlike on prior Green Day albums, there are very few jagged edges on 'Warning' – unless that’s the specific goal.

This album will not bring the boys from The Bay back into the spiked, pierced fold. It is, however, a terrific pop album.

Very listenable. Light and happy on the surface with one song that descends to the depths of despair. Buy. Listen. Bounce.

Who’d have thought guitarist/ complainer Billie Joe Armstrong, pushing 30, would manage to remain entertainingly adolescent while allowing for a few lifestyle modifications?
