Waking Up Laughing is another brick in Martina McBride's astonishingly consistent catalog. Her continual affirmation for Christian faith may alienate some but will no doubt register with many country fans. Any way you look at it, Waking Up Laughing is a winner.

On the optimistic, homespun Waking Up Laughing, love is the epoxy that bonds couples, families and cultures, while people make the most of second chances. Solid. Parents willing to talk through the disc's hiccups may decide that, on the whole, good prevails.

McBride hasn’t made a truly great album since Wild Angels, but when at her best, she makes some of the best mainstream country music. The good news is that the vocal histrionics are kept to a minimum, and the strongest material here shows her song sense can be very much on the mark.

So far, with Martina it's been all about her vocal talent. She's entranced legions of fans worldwide with her raw power, but on this album she finally proves that she is far more than just a pretty voice.

it's just overkill, with 11 songs and a scant handful of ideas between them, her mostly perky delivery somehow becomes emo. This isn't to say that the album is unredeemable , there are a few really nice tunes, when taken separately.
