Victorialand
| Cocteau TwinsVictorialand
Victorialand is the fourth studio album by Scottish alternative rock band Cocteau Twins, released by 4AD in April 1986. Working without member Simon Raymonde, who had been enlisted to collaborate on This Mortal Coil's Filigree & Shadow album, vocalist Elizabeth Fraser and guitarist/producer Robin Guthrie produced a record almost completely devoid of percussion, drenching acoustic guitars in reverberantspace to create a wide, expansive sound that bordered on ambient. -Wikipedia

Sputnik Music
A wonderful, frozen landscape of sound.

All Music
Fraser is, as always, in wonderfully fine voice; her words are quite indecipherable, but the feelings are no less strong for it.
-
Exclaim!
While it may have been made using acoustic instruments, it hardly sounds of it. But one thing is for sure: it sounds like no other release in their discography, which is all part of its allure.

Evil Sponge
How can i seriously write about what i, in all honesty, consider to be the ultimate zenith of recorded music.
-
Clash Music
Fraser’s voice is left to reach heavily into enchanting, unseen worlds, her habitual disregard for full lyrics manifesting itself through bewitching glossolalia that exemplifies the compelling individuality of her distinctive style.
-
Only Solitaire
It's a trip - not necessarily an acid one, just a trip to an enchanted forest, where pleasure and thrill is inseparable from danger and peril. So grab your big stick and off you go to "Victorialand".

Adrian's Album Reviews
This album creates entirely its own universe and reminds you of nothing else concrete with which to compare it to.
-
Ambient Music Guide
The Cocteau Twins’ blissful, enigmatic mood music remains utterly distinctive and very special.
