There is no reason to believe that Vector won’t continue to expand their audience and reach while continuing to please most fans already along for the ride.

Haken’s Vector is an artful and interesting album with an undeniable charm.

In general, despite the heaviness of the instrumentation, Vector has a weirdly elusive melodic quality, and this is only partly because of Jennings’ vocals.

Best of all, Vector proves once again that Haken’s remarkable prolificacy—now five albums within eight years—doesn’t really hinder their remarkable formula.

In short, Vector is dark, elegant, smart, and cinematic, and it stands as a worthy addition to an already incredible discography.

With Vector, Haken further solidify themselves as one of the most dependable, interesting, and inherently original acts working in progressive metal.

Vector is close to flawless, brimming with graceful yet heavy perfection, and will go down as one of the year’s best progressive releases.

  • The Progressive Aspect

With Vector, the band are sadly narrowing their scope, sacrificing their universal appeal and timeless tunes for chugging mathematical riffs that you will not be able to hum along to, let alone recall after five minutes.

All in all, Vector certainly met my expectations as one of Haken’s standout albums in their relatively young career.

They have made a sublime album that takes the building blocks from their previous albums, with nods right back to the debut, and still manage to push their sound on and create something that is new, that is vibrant and that is nothing other than what it is.

Truly majestic, bands like Haken don’t come along very often and should be treasured when they do.

Vector is at once a brave new chapter and a logical -- if surprising -- continuation of Haken's always expansive M.O.

I wouldn’t call it a comeback album, as HAKEN never really went anywhere, but it’s more of a reminder of just how damn good they really are.

Because this is not necessarily a concept album, the short runtime is less disappointing than it would otherwise be, and means that this album makes for truly fantastic listening at any time.

Vector is Haken's heaviest album by far, but it also features great melodies and instrumental highlights, making this album one of the best prog metal albums I have heard this year.

. I can't figure out why the record was made like this, which means I can't say why I would want to dive in repeatedly and listen to it. Great progressive metal is a blend of new ideas, technical mastery, and great songwriting.

Alternatively, I found the album to be simply typical Haken, and so largely another predictable practice of their progressive musical style, but not without some merits of its own. Nevertheless, if you're a fan of Haken, you will enjoy Vector.

Haken haven’t missed a beat with “Vector”. It’s a shorter, heavier, and crazier than any album they’ve produced yet, but it’s still Haken and it is still awesome.
