Up..
| R.E.M.Up..
Up is the eleventh studio album by American rock band R.E.M., released on October 26, 1998 by Warner Bros. Records. It was the band's first album without original drummer Bill Berry, who retired from the group in October 1997. In his place, R.E.M. used session drummers and drum machines. -Wikipedia

Show All-
Rolling Stone
R.E.M. made the romance of the inner world as compelling as all the lust and rebellion that rock had mustered throughout its loud history. Up continues that romance, on a morning after that promises a good day.
-
Stereogum
True, it may remain an album that captures a band searching, not knowing the way forward. But sometimes the most evocative songs are built from the sound of getting lost.

R.E.M. FIND THEIR WAY AS A TRIO WITH ‘UP’.
-
Sputnik Music
Superb.
-
BBC
The best of the three post-Berry studio albums.
-
A.V. Club Music
A flawed near-masterpiece.
-
Hooks and Harmony
It certainly doesn’t approach the top of the list of my favorite R.E.M. albums (Yes, I have a list), and it isn’t near the bottom, either. But given my first impression, it had nowhere to go but, well, up.

Good.

Up sealed the deal.
-
All Music
They are simply well-crafted tracks that are easy to admire, but hard to love.
-
Adrian's Album Reviews
The songs that follow all comes across as redundant, songs repeating previous ideas. Still, even with those songs we get a fine record.
-
Backseat Mafia
Bad poetry.
-
Diffuser
Up remains the band's lowest energy album, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
-
Mark's Record Reviews
Admirable attempt to try something different following the departure of drummer William "Chuck" Berry.
-
Rewind Fast Forward
Satisfying.
-
John McFerrin Music Reviews
Very good/great.
-
OO Cities
The band remains resourceful musically.
-
Spectrum Culture
Not meant to replace the original but, rather, to present an abridged version that retains its spirit.
-
Aphoristic Album Reviews
If you’re not turned off by slow pacing, Up is worth exploring, but it feels less effortless than most R.E.M. albums.
-
Don Ignacio's Music Reviews
If you respond well to depressing, moody stuff then it's worth checking out. Even I think it's pretty darn good in spots. So there you go.

Steve Hoffman
A monster of an album!
-
The Solute
For the first time for an R.E.M. record I’m left wondering if it was a contrast, or backtracking…
