Trigga is 45 minutes of thug luv, and Trey’s thirsty fanbase will eat it up.

Trey Songz’s sixth LP skates on the edges of modern hip-hop while remaining true to his R&B Lothario roots.

It might all feel a little mechanical, but Trigga does hang together, and has a seductive power that (one presumes) is befitting of the man himself.

Trigga is designed like a Hollywood blockbuster: squandered talent, obvious themes, and fleeting moments of creative excellence that stick among the clichés.

Trey Songz sixth album brings the hits but leaves the substance at home.

Trigga isn’t as cohesive as 2009’s Ready, but it’s a sublime, soulful convergence of the sonic minimalism and oil-slicked synths of today’s hip-hop and R&B, and its sound provides a charismatic contrast to its almost anhedonic pursuit of pleasure.

Trey Songz's latest is successful not because it takes a fresh approach or carries an important message, but rather because it so effortlessly epitomizes the modern R&B genre as it currently exists.

Wild, yet well-delivered songs showcase Songz as a master of a now lyrically unrestrained mainstream R&B standard.

There's hit after hit after hit, but for all of that we're missing a little bit of substance.

This is, no doubt, one of the most flagrantly lecherous commercial R&B albums of its time. It also has sharp hooks and slick productions to spare.

You know what, buy the album. Why not, it’s full of club bangers. It’s very, very simple, but people love simple these days. I can’t lie, so do I.

While there’s plenty of fun, there’s scant evidence Songz has attempted to create an album more memorable than the five preceding.

The male chauvinist approach in R&B as of late has deteriorated the genre, as artist’s content now matches that of rap and hip-hop in terms of aggression and the objectification of women.

That said, outside of some exasperating lyrics, this record is passable, and Trey Songz is the kind of performer whose charisma can redeem some frustrating material.

Trigga is not a terrible album, but it is not a masterpiece either. The album has moments. It is definitely worth a listen, but not an album I could listen to without skipping tracks.

In Trigga, Mr.StealYourGirl does a good job of displaying his versatility, letting people know that although his biggest radio records may be his club bangers, at the end of the day he knows how to make great RnB records, and he doesn’t plan on disappearing anytime soon.
