Throbbing and covered in sweat, Translation is unapologetic in its intent and a surprisingly welcome reminder of the Peas' power to lift spirits not through socially conscious bars, but internationally appealing, borderless people-pleasing that unites through dance.

Translation has its finger on the pulse of Latin music and it serves up banger-after-banger. I predict this is the album to put Black Eyed Peas back on the top and it has so many singles on it, it could have a very long shelf life too.

Relentlessly preachy music can be just as obnoxious as the relentlessly vapid, but even pop music can offer more substance than this. If this album was a soda, it would be light and bubbly, yet its sugar free nature would make you crave a Mexican soda in a glass bottle instead.

with its butter-smooth transitions and consistent sound, this album is designed to be played and replayed in its entirety each time with no breaks. It’s going to be exciting to see how fans match Translation’s endless energy in a concert setting, particularly at a music festival.

Ultimately, Translation is a major step in the right direction for a revamped Black Eyed Peas. The collaborations are seamless and the tracks as catchy as ever, cementing the modern global success of Latin-inspired dance music.

There’s very little in the way of passion or colour to be found on this project at all, and this left me disappointed to say the least.

‘Translation’ is one of the Black Eyed Peas’ strongest and most cohesive records to date. It is also their most unexpected, and that’s why this album is so memorable. After a first listen you will want to press replay and hear it again because it’s such a fun collection that brings back the essence of the group you originally fell in love with on ‘Elephunk’ and ‘Monkey Business’.
