Time Well Wasted

Time Well Wasted is the fourth studio album released by American country music artist Brad Paisley. It was released on August 16, 2005, on Arista Nashville. It was the Country Music Association's Album of the Year for 2006. The album produced the singles "Alcohol", "When I Get Where I'm Going", "The World", and "She's Everything". "Alcohol" was a number 4 hit on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, while the other three singles were all Number Ones. "Waitin' on a Woman" was re-recorded in mid-2008 as a bonus track for Paisley's 5th Gear album, and this re-recording was issued in June 2008 as a single.

It’s a great country record, period, the kind of album that speaks to the genre’s vital past and to which most alt-country artists aspire. Now that Paisley has settled into his success a bit, he’s yet another reason that the country mainstream can lay claim to a legitimate resurgence in its artistic relevance.

An excellent guitar player, Paisley’s licks are consistently solid. His lyrics aren’t. Randy moments and booze interfere with beautiful expressions of love, undermining any spiritual uplift. A Wasted opportunity.

It's not a perfect mix (let's gloss over the dumb 'bonus' track with William Shatner) but as far as the cream of mainstream country goes, this is as good as it gets.

Paisley's fourth album, has an eclectic and unique way of appealing to a very wide audience. Part singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, and humorist, Brad Paisley has produced an album that has mainstream sensibilities and strong, personalized signature sound and personality. For those who don't believe in Brad, they can "kiss his backstage pass." (Joe Ross)

Time Well Wasted is not only richer than his first three records, it's more gripping upon its first play. Paradoxically, it demands attention partially because Paisley isn't trying too hard to deliver a classic, nor is he working overtime to please his fans. Instead, he lays back and delivers his songs with the ease of an old pro, which means for the first time, he's made a record that can hold its own next to his idols.

  • My Kind of Country

The wise decision to include some submissions from outside songwriters, makes Time Well Wasted a stronger collection than some of Brad’s other albums. It reached #1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart and sold in excess of two million copies. It remains my favorite album in the Paisley catalog.

However, despite these missteps, Time Well Wasted not only is on track for being the most enjoyable country release of the year, but it also is a testament to the notion that an artist doesn’t need to play to the lowest common denominator in order to achieve success.

Time Well Wasted, laments the needless death of flowers in the name of love.

There are things you might criticize Brad Paisley for, but taking himself or his music too seriously is not one of them. For the most part, this album is a hoot.
