RollingStone
The Wake as a whole, it’s the sound of a veteran band indulging its most bizarre instincts and in the process reconnecting with everything that originally earned them such a loyal and obsessive fan base.

14th studio effort is among its finest albums.
-
Metal injection
The Wake is cinematic and unpredictable, with Voivod using maps from throughout their career to bring the listener on an enjoyable ride filled with twists and turns.
-
NEW NOISE
Voivod moves on from punctuated equilibrium to the Quantum evolution the band was known for, and in doing so created one of the best albums of a long career.
-
Angry Metal Guy
While The Wake may lack a standout track such as “We Are Connected” (the very best song of the Mongrain era thus far, for my money), it’s also more cohesive and consistently engaging as a whole than Target Earth was.
-
LOUDER
The Wake is like nothing else on Earth and Voivod are still in a class of one.

‘The Wake’ by Voivod is musical perfection of the highest order - a cinematic progressive metal masterpiece which yields a twisting tale of mankind’s demise.
-
Metal Archives
if you think the old-timers have had it enough and you have given up hope on the stars of the past, you sure have missed this high-ranker of 2018. The best person to have described this offering might be the drummer, Michel “Away” Langevin, who said the music of this album to be “a futuristic prog thrash metal trek”. Bullseye!
-
Blabbermouth
"The Wake" is elaborate, complex and bizarre yet surprisingly accessible because it's tremendously catchy and flowing.

Rest assured Metalheads, you can expect an album with a unique atmosphere, inoffensive lyrics and modern production methods–not too clean, but hardly muddy. Required listening for anyone claiming to keep up with the Canadian metal scene.

LAST RITES
Yet, despite The Wake being no less than elite among them, you aren’t likely to hear anything like that from the members of Voivod, because there really is no need to project a glossy image of yourself walking on the moon when you’ve actually been there.
-
Metal Temple
Prog-Techheads will relish this one I believe - worth the investment.
