9/23/2008 There appears to be a sense of pride and ethic behind The Script that make them more than just an average pop-rock band and should serve them well in their future endeavors. It appears that their past experiences have given them a grounding of what is required to make appealing and accomplished music.

8/20/2010 Typical, simplistic radio-pop that borrows more ideas than it invents. One could make an even greater case that they are wholly unoriginal second-rate versions of the real pop-radio geniuses dominating the music scene.

    Intelligent, beautifully crafted and compelling.

The Script may have become an overnight success in the U.K. and Ireland with their debut single "We Cry," but their self-titled album bears the imprint of their internship in California, a meticulously and well-scripted (excuse the pun) blend of smooth soul and radio rock in the mold of Maroon 5 and One Republic

They know how to craft a piano ballad, such as We Cry - but then they buff it until it gleams like a sun-tinged Cadillac and it becomes slickness over soul.

Until then, this critic-proof album will mean a lot to a lot of people, be a guilty pleasure for some and leave others unmoved. All may agree, however, that they've better in them.

The band's music likewise pilfers from tried and trusted crowd-pleasers, with the piano power-ballad "Before the Worst" apeing Keane in its fusion of melodrama and moody yearning, "Rusty Halo" sounding, from O'Donoghue's vaunting delivery, like a Police outtake, and the current single "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" a Maroon 5 photocopy.

The Script will probably be the world’s next biggest new band, and I wouldn’t be surprised as this is an album designed to appeal to a massive worldwide audience. New Maroon 5, anyone?

The Dublin trio sound unstoppable on their melodic, accomplished but not terribly exciting debut album. A lot of people are going to love The Script.

For those of us who still appreciate the power and influence of pop (which I most certainly do) then paying attention to The Script is probably something valuable, if only to understand what is going on in the world of easily digestible rock from new artists.

The Script eponymously titled debut album reveals a band that is fresh, vital and ferociously good.

WARNING: This review suggests that there may be an exit from the boy-band graveyard! Fusion of pop and contemporary R&B are prevalent.

Their record company seem to think they have "Timbaland meets U2" here - more realistically, they have the new Maroon 5.
