Billy Idol’s string of pop-punk hits and unmistakable sneer propelled him to 1980s stardom. Idol sounds more mature than ever on the new EP The Roadside.

The King Rocker is most definitely back and ‘The Roadside EP’ shows he’s certainly not ready to give up his crown just yet. Outstanding.

The Roadside makes for an auspicious return for Billy Idol, even if it is in the form of an abbreviated four-song EP. After a nearly seven-year absence, fans have reason to wonder if the one-time celebrated punk poster boy can still retain his menacing facade while the kind of music that was once considered Vital Idol.

The E.P. is a more mature Billy and I think I really like where he is heading with his music. We can’t expect 80’s Billy and we shouldn’t want it. This is him growing as a singer and a writer and really stretching his talents and I am happy with that.

Billy Idol is back and he is rocking just as hard as always. The EP’s four songs usher listeners into a great mood, one that makes it very difficult to sit still while the music is still playing. In this, the faster songs are destined to cause adrenaline levels to rise. But Idol goes beyond this to offer four timeless songs that will also inspire listeners to forget everything as they drink in his latest. And The Roadside EP definitely leaves its audience hungry for more!

‘The Roadside EP’ is first new Billy Idol release in nearly seven years and four songs isn’t a lot of new stuff. However, there is a stellar tune one on this release, called ‘Bitter Sweet’. Two songs are entertaining and come with a solid punch while ¼ of this release is soulless and faceless. Fortunately, there are especially the first two tracks that make the weak spot nearly forgotten.

“The Roadside” is a mighty EP, from a brilliant artist who maybe deserves more acclaim. That night when I saw him last, he’d said: “Steve, show them what a hit single sounds like, would you?” pretty much like any of these, to be fair.

While I've established that I'm by no means an expert on the BILLY IDOL catalog, I have to say that I was surprised to be blown away by what I got to listen to on this EP. The Roadside EP is such an entertaining listen that the only knock on it is that, like me, you will end up wishing it had been longer.

As much as I love the 80’s Billy Idol, I really am enjoying his modern day music. Especially with these new songs, I feel like we are seeing a whole new side of Billy that he’s never shown us before. He’s always been this real tough punk rocker but as he’s reached these later years in his life, and with becoming a recent grandfather, I feel like we are seeing a much more vulnerable side of him that’s really shining through his songwriting and music. Being a punk rocker will always be his legacy but it’s nice not only seeing this different side of him, but also hearing it through his new music.

Billy Idol mixes his signature glam-punk posturing with a bit of the reflective tone that characterized 2014's introspective Kings & Queens of the Underground. At a scant four tracks, The Roadside EP hardly marks a major release from the veteran artist, but in lead single "Bitter Taste," he presents one of his better late-career offerings.

From a selfish point of view, we could all easily say we’d prefer a new full-length Billy Idol album, as it’s been so long, but the quality and honesty presented here more than makes up for it. As far as this EP goes, we are so glad you weren’t left by that roadside, as THAT, would have left a bitter taste.

THE ROADSIDE EP is just a perfect, timeless release with four superb tracks. From beautiful depression to hard party the diversity of each song is simply amazing. The experience of about sixteen minutes of pure joy just worth every penny spent on it.
