The Rainbow Children
| PrinceThe Rainbow Children
The Rainbow Children is the twenty-fourth studio album by American recording artist Prince. It was released on November 20, 2001 by NPG Records and Redline Entertainment. It was also released through Prince's website earlier in the year. It is the first album released outside of the NPG Music Club to be released under the name of Prince again, as he had reverted to his previous stage name from his symbolic moniker a year earlier. -Wikipedia
Critic Reviews
Show All-
Rolling Stone
It cops jazz forms without swinging, gets James Brownishly funky minus the urgency, and offers church interludes that are too mystical to carry earthly convention.
-
Music OMH
It’s the lovely application of Prince’s instrumental genius – from his unexpected use of marimbas through to a subtle undertone of tremolo organ here and there – that delights.
-
Slant Magazine
the album’s concept consists of a string of failed, ultimately hollow parables
-
Funkatopia
Prince’s Rainbow Children is a true work of art for both the funk fanatics and music theorists alike.
-
A Pop Life
The Rainbow Children is one of my favorite Prince albums by Prince in the latter days of his career.
-
People
while some tracks feel more like extended jams than actual songs, this is also one of Prince’s most musical works
-
All Music
this is Prince at his most focused and rewarding in a long time
-
Rock NYC
Prince can’t perform badly and therefore he doesn’t perform badly, the music is immaculate and far ranging, with Prince sounding very one man band and music hitting you from every direction
-
Wilson & Alroy's Record News
Prince recaptured his muse: covering a lot of ground without sounding like a one-man sampler disc, spinning out bizarrre, gorgeous grooves
-
Chicken Bones
if you are looking for a diversified musical experience with lyrics that take you further than the sheets, then The Rainbow Children is up your alley
-
Fine Music
It shows off to great effect the extent of Prince’s spirituality, musical artistry and uniqueness.

Goldie's Parade
beautiful, funky, yet musically inspiring, it takes music to higher levels in every sense of the word

For fans, a real treat when compared to the rehash compilations Warner Bros are releasing.
