THE MIRACLE

The Miracle is the thirteenth studio album by the British rock band Queen, released on 22 May 1989. Released by Capitol Records in the United States, it is the band's first studio album to be released by Parlophone Records in the UK. The album was recorded as the band recovered from Brian May's marital problems and Freddie Mercury'sAIDS diagnosis in 1987 (which was known to the band, though not publicised at the time). Recording started in January 1988 and lasted for an entire year. -Wikipedia

Lyrically, the songs tend to reflect on the band's past accomplishments ("Khashoggi's Ship," "Was It All Worth It") as well as the state of the world in the late '80s (the title track, "I Want It All").

1989 - The band hasn’t been so bogged down by synthesizers and pinging drum machines since Hot Space. ... At least The Miracle offers little snippets of Queen’s former majesty.

I know that it was worth listening to this album, at least.

It all sounds fresh and energetic and puts the listener in a great mood.

  • Louder Sound

Although swathed in synth sounds, the album is triumphant thanks to Mercury’s stunning vocals and May’s agitated guitar work. The balance between all the styles worked out better than might have been feared.

that's evidence alone that very little of this has managed to reverberate through the ages. That is, apart from the infamous album cover.

In short, there are too many synthesizers and drum machines on this album. ... It’s not nearly as bad as Hot Space (which is a difficult bar to hurdle), but it makes a pretty strong case for being ranked second-to-last. Unless you’re a die-hard purist, I’d say skip it.

    More of the same. Pass.

The Miracle isn’t particularly coherent and it is awkward at times, but nonetheless the return to the classic Queen sound is refreshing and would be even more fully realised on their next record.

A clutch of songs, most of them released as singles in the UK, form the heart of this release and make it almost respectable.

Well, this album is split down the middle. Each song is either great or terrible. ... All in all, it is worth it for the great ones.
