All in all, The L.I.B.R.A. feels like the sort of album an icon makes simply because they can. Hardly bothering with singles, doing even less for promotion, the sudden announcement and release of the album feels far less like shock-and-awe and far more akin to an open gesture. This an LP clearly intended just for the sort of folk who are still clamoring for a T.I. album, and for those checking in to see if he’s still got it.

The entire record is a victorious display of self-celebration, but the impact of T.I.'s years in the rap game are felt most directly on tracks where he's matching wit and lyrical dexterity with rappers from the generation that directly followed him.

T.I.’s eleventh album is more concerned with sprinting alongside Atlanta’s new generation than with cementing his legacy or exploring his politics.
