The Game

The Game is the eighth studio album by the British rock band Queen. It was released on 30 June 1980 by EMI Records in the UK and by Elektra Records in the US. The Game features a different sound than its predecessor, Jazz (1978). The Game was the first Queen album to use a synthesizer (an Oberheim OB-X). "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", "Sail Away Sweet Sister", "Coming Soon" and "Save Me" were recorded from June to July 1979. The remaining songs were recorded between February and May 1980. -Wikipedia

it's a grand, state-of-the-art circa 1980 pop album that still stands as one of the band's most enjoyable records

1980 - it’s nice to hear a Queen album with songs, not “anthems.”

It would be fair to argue that The Game contains no clunkers, no songs that should have been discarded.

It's not the sort of album I would recommend to introduce you to Queen, but it's well worth a listen. The musicianship here is among the finest they have had.

A transitional album, with some of Queen's most brilliant moments... and some crap thrown in for good measure.

You could justifiably accuse Queen of coasting all across this album, nothing matches their absolute peaks, but what is here is enjoyable.

The Game is Queen’s most disjointed album yet, and apart from the singles and May’s contributions there’s nothing too impressive here, but those make up more than half the record in any case, and I can’t imagine any Queen fan wanting to pass this up.

This is a stripped down, funky rock and roll record, and it’s freakin’ fantastic. It drags a bit toward the end, but it might be their most consistent album yet.

In my opinion, this was Queen’s last truly great album before their glorious swansong with Innuendo.

clearly one of Queen's better albums and by far their best of the '80s

  • Louder Sound

The Game trumpeted a new era for the band, although what followed slightly derailed them.
