For us, it’s one of the most impressive debut albums of 2013. Each track is unwaveringly good.

There is a real feel that this album was put together with much time spent on delving into tempo and mood shifts, and it seems to flow perfectly (until the last song at least). It is perhaps more polished than most independent records, with harmonies and a barrage of instruments, but this all adds to the mood.

The 1975 look to roughly the same period on their debut album, and also offer up some memorable songs with some sharp lyrics.

With The 1975, the Manchester group has crafted a skillful pop album that you can listen to while you stare out the window at some dreary weather or while you drive around with the top down, not an easy expanse to cover.

Don't get me wrong, the EP tracks aren't terrible, but I felt the overall cohesiveness of the tracks wasn't there and it worried me.

It seems the stars have aligned for The 1975, but this impressive and authoritative debut destroys all trace of cynicism that they’re almost too perfect a package. ... We could certainly do with these intelligent, joyful and often moving anthems supplanting the identikit pop which so dominates the current charts.

The many influences of THE 1975 are apparent on this album but they dampen the group’s unique take on alternative rock instead of enrichen it.

The 1975 is an album that will appeal mostly to fans of their EPs. If this is your first time listening to the band, you may be taken aback by Healy's whiny vocals, the girl-appealing image of the band, or just the overall sound of their music.
