That’s Life is nothing new from My Way, yet if the formula works this well, then there is little reason to change it.

At this point in his remarkable career, it would be missing the point to compare any of Nelson’s releases to other modern country efforts. The question isn’t whether or not this album is a fine record—although it is. The only question that matters now is does this album warrant a place in the collection of the Willie Nelson fan, and that answer is a rather easy yes.

Willie sounds younger here than he has in years. He seems to be singing with a smile, as buoyed by his band as he is by these standards, a quality that gives That's Life an endearing kick.

“That’s Life” is not one that is going to be a household name among Nelson’s fans but it is one that people will enjoy. The album does its job of paying homage to one of the best jazz musicians of all time, and fans should believe that Nelson would have made Sinatra smile with this one.
