Terrapin Station
| Grateful DeadTerrapin Station
Terrapin Station is the ninth studio album by the Grateful Dead, released July 27, 1977. It was the first Grateful Dead album on Arista Records and the first studio album after the band returned to live touring, following a nearly two-year hiatus.
The album reached No. 28 on the Billboard Album Chart and achieved gold album status in 1987, after being released for the first time on CD (by Arista Records) following the release of that year's In the Dark. Terrapin Station was remastered and expanded for the Beyond Description (1973–1989) box set in October 2004.-"Wikipedia"
Critic Reviews
Show All-
All Music
Musically, Terrapin Station offers a few choice glimpses of the band doing what it does best. While the most prominent example is the album's extended title suite, there are a few others such as the cover of the Rev. Gary Davis gospel-blues "Samson and Delilah" and a resurrection of the Martha & the Vandellas hit "Dancin' in the Streets."

Sputnik Music
The newfound tightness and professionalism in their playing live translated to the studio here, and there's far more effort and energy put into the production of this album than any of the ones that followed.
-
All About Jazz
The playing is tight, energetic and intense. Although the songs occasionally get experimental and exploratory, the band is in complete control—each member is completely in tune with the others.
-
Low Upside
Terrapin Station is not a perfect album and certainly not the finest moment for the band. With the exception of “Terrapin Part 1,” the whole album feels overproduced. The frequent horn-heavy or string-heavy tracks feels like a radical departure from the free-from jazz that the band exhibited two years prior.
