relaxed, dreamy at times, the laid-back funk of the vocals resting on a deliciously liquid instrumental track like a body on a waterbed ... Wonder has produced another of the very best albums this year

The artist breaks through and takes control, though not in that order. Suddenly he's writing better ballads than he used to choose, and not at any sacrifice of his endearing natural bathos

2000 - The album crystallized Wonder's talent as a singer, writer and producer. He proved he could write grooves to keep you on the dance floor and, at the same time, make you think about social problems. And on the other side, he could melt your heart.

2018 - ‘Talking Book’ is Stevie at his trippiest, his bounciest, his most poetic, and this was a time when he was still sharpening up his songwriting scythe

2008 - if released today, would be hailed as revolutionary. Talking Book, I think, is the best of those five essential Stevie albums, and, without resorting to hyperbole, all of them are worth owning and listening to weekly, at least.
