SUNFLOWER

Sunflower is the 16th studio album by American rock band the Beach Boys, released in August 1970, and their first on Reprise Records. Despite being met with largely positive reviews, the album suffered unexpectedly poor sales, reaching number 151 on U.S. record charts during a four-week stay, and becoming the lowest-charting Beach Boys album to that point. In the UK, the album performed better, peaking at number 29. - WIKIPEDIA

July 18, 2000 - despite Sunflower's merits and critical acclaim, it was not a financial success, which didn't bode well as the inauguration of the Beach Boys' brand new era.

the Beach Boys re-entered the studio to begin work on what would become a largely different set of songs. The results signaled a creative rebirth for the band, a return to the beautiful harmonies and orchestral productions of their classic mid-'60s material.

It's just so very beautiful, it brings up the standard of an already wonderful album to that of an absolute masterpiece.

The style of this album is incredibly loose, incredibly tuneful, beautiful harmonies and sometimes wild shifts in style.

It might not be the Beach Boys’ most profound statement, and you need to leave your cynicism at the door, but Sunflower is always heart warming and pleasurable.

All in all, just sort out the few stinkin' filler tracks which are the most generic or the most cringe-inducingly sappy, and the final product, while short, will certainly make your day. And a fine, flowery, sunny day it will be, too.
