SUMMER IN PARADISE

Summer in Paradise is the 27th studio album by American rock band the Beach Boys, released on August 3, 1992 on Brother Records. Produced by Terry Melcher, it has been described as the band's critical and commercial low point, defining it as "absolute nadir of their career". It was the first and only studio album not to feature any new contributions from founding member Brian Wilson. The Beach Boys did not record another album of original material until That's Why God Made the Radio in 2012. -WIKIPEDIA

What would the Beach Boys be like if Brian Wilson were banned and lead singer Mike Love ruled the roost? Like this -- writing bad new songs, recording bad covers of old songs -- a pointless parody of themselves.

2017 - Summer in Paradise reaches a point where it stops being funny - you realize that for the most part, the people involved seriously believe this will become the quintessential soundtrack to the summer. I get it. I ain't laughing, but I get it.

2008 - Summer In Paradise is by far the worst album released by The Beach Boys and one of the worst to be released by a major artist. There is bad songwriting, there are bad lyrics, there is bad singing, there is bad production, and then it gets worse.

This is Mike Love, Bruce Johnston and Terry Melcher pretending to be the Beach Boys and ripping out the most dreadful entry in their catalog.

All I hear is great music. Sure, one can be cynical and say that the Beach Boys were trying to cash in on the success of "Kokomo" by creating sound-alike songs. I'm not saying that that is untrue, but the results make for very pleasant listening for the most part.
