STRONGER

Stronger is the fifth studio album by American singer Kelly Clarkson, released on October 21, 2011 by RCA Records. The thirteen-song track-list features Clarkson collaborating with various new producers as well as with Howard Benson, whom she collaborated with on her previous album, All I Ever Wanted (2009). Wanting to stray away sonically from her previous albums, Clarkson's main objective was to record her vocal performances as it is heard in her live sets, and used as little auto-tune processing as possible. The album also marked the first release by Clarkson that did not cause a conflict with RCA; her previous records, most notably My December (2007), were released amidst conflict and controversy. - WIKIPEDIA

she’s still young enough to pull off gleefully bratty kiss-offs.

the album’s success is entirely due to Kelly Clarkson, whose personality and professionalism turn it into her best album since her Breakaway breakthrough in 2004.

Essentially everything here involves Ms. Clarkson's clobbering her subject while getting clobbered with guitars.

With the exception of the obvious electronic manipulation used on "Mr. Know It All," Clarkson's performances on Stronger are more consistently lived-in and evocative than on any of her previous efforts.

Clarkson remains a slightly wearying one-note artist--she's a wounded lover, bellowing her pain and scorching the earth. But wow--that voice.

The album suffers from a heavily produced electro-sheen, and ends up feeling more manufactured than magical.

this is simply an overlong string of standard putdown R&B and bogus emotional turmoil, the songs blitzed with generic power-ballad overkill.

Despite the bumps and bruises along the way, Stronger wholeheartedly lives up to its title.

Clarkson can make anything sound good, usually without trying very hard, and she knocks down these lightweight Top 40 anthems and mid-tempo ballads as if she were swatting flies.

“Stronger” has its cake and eats it, too — by marrying pure ear-candy arrangements to Clarkson’s flawless, effortlessly fluid soul-rock vocals, and by embedding vividly conjured emotions in up-tempo tunes that never get too bogged down in their own seriousness.

Stronger is a well-balanced mix of pop-rock music, and Clarkson really embraces her genre while still taking risks to make this new material stand out from her previous records.

Stronger sees the slightly dark pop of songs like 'Since U Been Gone' remaining prominent, with a nice disco/club influence that isn't overbearing.

  • A Separate State of Mind

it’s tough to see such talent wasted on songs like many of the ones on “Stronger,” an album I’ve had for a few days now and don’t find myself interested in listening to in its entirety. Now many people will feel the same – and that is a bad thing.

This latest album doesn’t seem to present any reason to worry about the future. Her voice is strong while the production is a real bulldozer of sound ploughing through songs that mostly seem to have the gumption to withstand the assault.

Doesn’t this woman know better than to produce half-good songs after all this time, given what she’s been through? After all, she’s learned now and she claims to be stronger! So here’s to hoping it’s not just a front.
