I cranked this album as soon as it came in the mail and I can say this is the best I’ve ever heard these songs. You’d never know this was on a vinyl record as there is no popping, hissing, or surface noise. I’m VERY happy just having this album but there’s more to the box!

Rhino
Jane’s Addiction fans will be pleased to know that they can pick up a copy of STERLING SPOON, a six-LP collection which includes the band’s first two studio albums (NOTHING’S SHOCKING and RITUAL DE LO HABITUAL), their 1990 concert album LIVE FROM THE PALLADIUM, and a handful of rarities, demos, and outtakes from their KETTLE WHISTLE compilation.

Turntable Lab
Sterling Spoon collects two of the band's best albums - 1988's Nothing's Shocking and 1990's Ritual De Lo Habitual - along with offering select cuts from 1997's Kettle Whistle compilation and a live album for the first time on vinyl. Includes the songs: "Jane Says," "Stop!," "Been Caught Stealing," and "Mountain Song," along with demo and live versions of many of the band's best tracks. Forty-one tracks in all. Released by Rhino Records on six LPs housed in a box with cover art by Ernesto Yerena.

If they were really substantial box sets, say like the recent Metallica album box sets, I'd be tempted. The thing is, the non-album tracks and demos have already been milked dry via the Curiosities box and even the live stuff has lost much of it's appeal thanks to YouTube. However, if Dave is to be taken at his word, it kind of sounds like just some sort of double LP packaging containing just the two studio albums.

Elusive Disc
Jane's Addiction have kept pace in a modern culture that the band helped to expand and progress. They didn't invent the metal fan who also loves rap. That kid already existed. So did the Goth kid who also owned Zeppelin records. But before all music and information was instantly available, Jane's did enlighten the metal fan who'd never even had a chance to hear rap - or industrial or prog or British indie - and that metal fan is better and more open-minded for it.

Released to coincide with an anniversary tour also called Sterling Spoon in 2016 -- it celebrated the 25th anniversary of the first Lollapalooza -- Sterling Spoon is a six-LP vinyl box set that celebrates Jane's Addiction's glory days of Nothing's Shocking and Ritual de lo Habitual. Both albums are here -- Ritual spills over two albums -- and then there's an LP of selections from the 1997 rarity compilation Kettle Whistle, plus a double-LP release of Live from the Palladium in 1990. The latter has never been released in its entirety, so it's a good enticement in a box that otherwise simply offers shiny new re-pressings of the band's most popular material.

Jane's Addiction made great albums, but it was the band's live shows that cemented its legend. As a testament to their stage prowess, 'Sterling Spoon' includes the group's entire performance at the Hollywood Palladium from December 1990, a concert recording that was originally released in 2008 as part of the Rhino's boxed set 'A Cabinet of Curiosities'. Among the highlights are thunderous performances of classics such as 'Three Days,' 'Stop!' and 'Summertime Rolls.'

The new collection focuses mainly on the Los Angeles-based quartet’s first incarnation —Perry Ferrell (vocals), Dave Navarro (guitar), Eric Avery (bass), and Stephen Perkins (drums) — and includes the band’s landmark studio albums: Nothing’s Shocking (1988) and Ritual De Lo Habitual (1990). It was, arguably, those recordings that made the group underground heroes with songs like: Jane Says, Ocean Size, Mountain Song, and the #1 Modern Rock hits Been Caught Stealing and Stop!
