Starting Over isn't quite a rebirth for Reba McEntire; rather, it's a tribute to her formative influences. Consisting of nothing but covers of a selection of her favorite songs from the '50s, '60s, and '70s, the album is an engaging listen.

The 10 new tracks and nine gorgeous poses in the sleeve prove conclusively that after two decades in the music industry, Reba is none the worse for wear. "Starting Over" is a collection of her all-time favorite songs spanning several decades and genres including pop, country, rock and even Motown.

On this album, country singer Reba McEntire has deliberately chosen ten covers that have influenced her life in one way or another. Famous songs like Talking In Your Sleep, On My Own, You're No Good and By The Time I Get To Phoenix are in this great country album interspersed with lesser known songs.

10/27/1995. Pleasant at best, superfluous at worst, and useful mainly as further proof that the roots of modern country continue to lie in singer-songwriter pop.
