So here comes Alabama with a new album—their first original country LP in 15 years—and they start it off with the title track which is so moronic and formula-based, it’s grotesque. . . . ‘Southern Drawl” is one of those songs that’s so bad it can ruin the experience of a whole album, or even a career.

Overall, Southern Drawl is a solid album with a few flukes on it. It’s definitely worth a listen and certainly enough to give us Alabama fans hope for the future of the band!

Trying too hard is an unfortunate undercurrent on the record, . . . ....Such down-the-middle numbers overshadow much subtler and nicer moments scattered throughout the record, moments that usually arrive in the soft, sweet ballads that give the group plenty of opportunity to showcase its gentle, interwoven harmonies. These slow tunes more than the over-pumped rockers feel the truest to old Alabama.

Southern Drawl represents the best of what fans expect from Alabama. It’s a wonderful blend of the band’s signature harmonies, rocking guitars, heartfelt lyrics and the dose of levity for good measure. There’s a little familiarity to the album that is sure to please their longtime fans.

Alabama’s latest album isn’t the best thing the band has done to date. Even if it’s great to still have this band around more than 30 years after its commercial breakthrough, it’s hard to embrace Southern Drawl as a whole.

They have really lost none of their class - on the contrary. Alabama present themselves at the height of time. Best Country Alabama Style! Absolutely no doubt: "Life gets better - with their 'Southern Drawl'"! Great class!

Over the past three decades, country rock has morphed into flashy stadium shows and a more pop laced sound. And with few exceptions, that's what we get here.
