  • Consequence of Sound

By refusing to be hip and letting their corny sincerity settle into their bones, Kiss has reclaimed their title as the hottest band in the land. Next time we hear “you wanted the best and you got it!”, we can all rest assured that this time, they actually mean it.

we didn't expect them to knock one out of the park this early with this heaving, sweating lump of fabulous groove straight from 1975 ... it really is that good

Will it provide decent accompaniment for a Gene Simmonsblood-belching performance in a packed arena? This big, dumb, catchy recordpasses that test.

Each song on the album is tight and sounds great with Paul Stanley‘s production. Sonic Boom is a strong, consistent album that ranks in the same league as the band’s 70s material. One of the most solid albums in the band’s history.

Its an OK album. I get the whole pitch as being "Classic Kiss" because they went for that sound, but what ended up was something more in line with 80's Kiss at times. The production is good and not over the top.

Classic and maybe even a little awesome, Sonic Boom makes that "hottest band in the world" tag much easier to swallow.

the most complete and fluid album KISS has made since 1977’s Love Gun. The songwriting, Paul’s production, and Tommy’s perfect guitar playing, bring the album together to bring KISS back their roots.

you get nearly over two hours of material and, by and large, there's much more boom than bust on Kiss' "Sonic Boom."

their classic 70s sound was little better than their rather iffy 80s sound, or their downright ropey 90s sound

It’s a breath of fiery air, then, that their latest is as close to a return to classic form as anyone could reasonably expect.

2009 - Will any of these tracks make the next greatest-hits set Kiss is sure to release in a couple of years? It seems unlikely; nothing here is as catchy as "Rock & Roll All Nite" or "Detroit Rock City," both of which still sound insanely great when Kiss plays live.

The best part is that Sonic Boom doesn't sound like a retread. In fact, it feels fresh and light.

After a long time away, Sonic Boom is a great return to form - vibrant, exciting, focussed, sonically fantastic, chock full of instant classics, and as close to CLASSIC Kiss as we could have dreamed of hearing in 2009!

This Walmart-only three-disc set — which includes a CD of rerecorded hits and a live DVD — should remind Hall of Fame voters that the recent nominees deserve consideration for far more than just Simmons’ ? fire-breathing abilities.

While Sonic Boom lacks the raw and rebellious feel of the original lineup’s classics, the polished riffs and choral hooks make for a good hard rock album.

Their no-nonsense, riff-based anthems and unreconstructed lyrics seem more contemporary than ever in today’s utilitarian, ethically unburdened age of rock.
