SOMETHING FOR THE REST OF US
| Goo Goo GirlsSOMETHING FOR THE REST OF US
Something for the Rest of Us is the ninth studio album by American rock band Goo Goo Dolls. It was released on August 28, 2010 in Australia and on August 31 in North America through Warner Bros. Records. The recording process took place during the spring to fall of 2009 in the GCR Audio studio in Buffalo and Paramount Studios as well as "the Ark" in Los Angeles, with producer Tim Palmer. A single had been originally slated to be released in November 2009 with an album release in February 2010, but the band went back into the studio in January 2010. According to lead singer and guitarist John Rzeznik, this was done to make further improvements on what they had previously thought had been a finished record. - WIKIPEDIA

Inspired by the recession, the Goo Goo Dolls craft an emotional, near-perfect album that gives a voice and a window into the individual struggles of the large number of "the rest of us" out there.

Something for the Rest of Us is every bit as easy on the ear as each of their albums has been since 98's big-league breakthrough, Dizzy Up the Girl.

Maybe the label was hoping to get back some of the Goo Goos' 90s magic, but that doesn't happen.

The first album in four years from the Buffalo, New York, trio sounds like the darkest moments of previous Goo discs stuck together in a 48-minute marathon of middling angst.

Something for the Rest of Us is another solid outing that will augment the band’s already legendary career.

Something For The Rest Of Us isn’t an album that’s going to turn heads. It won’t gain many new fans, nor will it do much to placate those that’ve turned away over the years. However, the trio have carved a niche for themselves, over the past decade in particular, whereby they’ve claimed the mantle of MOR kings.

Rzeznick resumes centre stage for the final two offerings, 'Hey Ya' and 'Soldier', which prove a fantastic way to end the album. The former is a huge anthemic sing-a-long while the latter takes a darker tone before opening with a powerful hook. Like the rest of the record neither are likely to win over too many new followers, but for the converted it is exactly what is required and enjoyed.

“Something For The Rest of Us” is a release deserving praise and it solidifies the Goo Goo Dolls’ status as one of the world’s first and foremost pop/rock bands.
