HNHH
While other rappers can fit neatly into one category or another, Tech N9ne proves with his thirteenth album that he is Something Else.
-
XXL
Something Else—his most cohesive balance of indie and mainstream—will be remembered as an album that brought him closer to acceptance. Whether Tech wants the bigger fame or not is unclear, but it’s safe to say the growth he displays here is one step nearer.

Sputnik Music
After listening to 'Something Else' all the way through, I found myself wanting to start it over and hear it all again. Tech's new album takes you on a cool journey that hasn't happened since K.O.D. and there are enough interesting tracks to give the album a high replay value.
-
Genius
Something Else covers a vast-range of lyrical topics, has huge features and is an impressive piece of work that showcases Tech’s ability to mix and blend genres to create beautiful music.
-
Exclaim
Something Else boasts fluidity and cohesiveness, as well as a diverse soundscape.
-
Respect
Something Else is an assertive album that declares what rap can do in both its independent and commercial manifestations. In that sense, Something Else truly is something else, not a middle ground or a compromise, but an alternative, a workable aesthetic option for both those at the top and at the bottom.
-
Vibe
the album as a straight listen certainly exhibits a noted change in musical direction as it plays, which is a commendable. Though he’s not exactly the outsider he once was, Tech N9ne fans—the die-hards and the johnny-come-latelys—should really enjoy this album. —Paul Cantor

Focus HipHop
As an overall project, there are a ton of great songs on here. It is daunting with so much content, but you’d definitely be gettin’ your money’s worth if you bought this. This is dope.

Broadway World
with this love, combined with our strength, we ward off pain and stress/ Technician I am, wholeheartedly, in life and in death." He begun both All 6's and 7's and Something Else with these very lines, and if Something Else doesn't make you a believer, well, I'm not entirely sure what will.

HipHop DX
he took big risks that will pay off, as Something Else will surely be a contender for album of the year. There are a few holes—the project’s length and forgettable appearances (Wiz Khalifia on “See Me”)—but overall, it’s an incredible album that will keep that hint of burgundy in the sky.

Vancouver Weekly
Genuine self-expression isn’t always a necessity for a rapper’s success, though the greats have shown us over the years that it definitely helps. If Something Else is any indication, Tech’s best work may still be ahead of him.

Juggalo News
In closing – this project like most full albums by Tech N9ne – is a success. Tech although becoming more of a positive writer is not slowing down and he is not losing his touch with what people are going to enjoy – great tracks, and well worth buying it whether your a digital copy fan or a physical copy fan – I highly recommend this one.

The Corvallis Advocate
Tech N9ne brings together many different elements in his music, including several genres from soul to heavy rock to dubstep, and often explores subject matter outside of mainstream rap. I would definitely recommend those interested in something different than your typical rap album to snag a copy of it as soon as possible.
