SLAVES AND MASTERS
| Deep PurpleSLAVES AND MASTERS
Slaves and Masters is the thirteenth studio album by the British rock band Deep Purple, and was released on 5 October 1990. This is the only Deep Purple album to feature former Rainbow lead vocalist Joe Lynn Turner, who had joined the previous year after the firing of Ian Gillan. Before hiring Turner, the band had considered singer Jimi Jamison of Survivor, but other obligations made him unavailable. -Wikipedia

All Music
Even Blackmore's input can't save this consistently disappointing CD, which only the most thorough collectors will want.
-
Metal Storm
All in all, what puts this album in the bottom of the band's discography is the concept, the fact that they composed something that was so usual to hear in the 80's.
-
Mike Ladano
this is strong music

Darker Than Blue
It’s a terrible Deep Purple album, true, but if you just let it spin you realise that it’s not a bad album. It’s something the likes of Foreigner could be rightly proud of, and it has aged with both grace and charm.

2015 - This album is an oft-forgotten gem and should not be overlooked by fans of Deep Purple, Rainbow, or any of the associated bands/band members/etc.
-
Ear of Newt
2017 - quite possibly the lamest Deep Purple album ever

2016 - Slaves and Masters is not usually given its due, folks.

"IT IS THE KIND OF RECORD THAT STANDS THE TEST OF TIME VERY WELL"

But it's totally redundant and doesn't add a single interesting idea to the Purple legacy. It rocks hard though, can't deny it.

Louder Sound
This might sound like Bad Company playing Survivor’s back catalogue, but so what?

John McFerrin Music Reviews
This isn't the worst music experience of my life, but it's hardly a time I'll look back on and cherish.
-
Ultimate Classic Rock
But the almost-universal groans that met this alliance were enough to drown out the solid, if unspectacular and suspiciously AOR-driven songs conjured up for this much-maligned LP. How could it possibly last? Well, it obviously didn’t!

Rarebird's Rock and Roll Rarity Reviews
It's a refined, easily-digestable hard rock album, the type you might expect from Foreigner, Kansas, or (you guessed it) Rainbow. On that level, Slaves And Masters is a pretty good album
