SKINS

Skins (stylized in all caps) is the third studio album by American rapper XXXTentacion, released on December 7, 2018.[3] It is one of the projects XXXTentacion was working on before his death, and his first album to be released posthumously. The lead single, "Bad!", was released on November 9. The album s features include Travis Barker of Blink-182 and American rapper Kanye West. On December 4, 2018, the album was leaked to multiple websites. The album received mixed reviews from critics. Criticism was aimed at the album s short length and unfinished nature. Despite the negative critical reception, Skins was a commercial success, debuting at number one on the US Billboard 2006, making it XXXTentacion's second US number-one album. - WIKIPEDIA

  • Pitchfork

Underneath it all, the posthumous album from the Florida rapper is woefully aimless and structurally unsound.

  • NME

A misguided attempt to redeem the deceased rapper, who had been accused of appalling, violent crimes, this posthumous record is an inventive but slight and ultimately dispiriting body of work.

The rapper's tragic life makes his art hit home harder than ever.

The first posthumous body of work from the late Florida artist feels empty and lost, though not for the reasons one might expect.

X songs always ran short, but the patchiness of this material gives the impression that a lot of it is unfinished.

Skins remains almost as morally muddy as XXX’s previous output, privileging the emo rapper’s pain above all else, but maintaining his deserved reputation for genre-shredding timeliness.

With 10 songs and a guest appearance by Kanye West, this is a strong album that demonstrates his diverse sound.

Skins takes that unrealized potential and cobbles together these tracks--basically b-sides and outtakes--strictly for fans who needed just ten more reasons to hear his voice.

Posthumous project ‘SKINS’ should play well to the XXXTENTACION base, but as an album, it’s ‘undercooked’ as opposed to being ‘well done.’

Whether a violent navel-gazer is worth even that much of your time is a question the listener must answer for themselves. But however problematic it may be, there is no disputing Skins’ haunting power.

Due to his previous allegations, X’s actions overshadow his actions of trying to be a better person. Maybe if his life wasn’t cut short, he would’ve been able to make up for himself and work towards a more settled life.

  • Barely Influential

Skins is realistically a 6 song album. However, each of these tracks is versatile enough that they each provide a small glimpse into the musical mind of a young talent who passed away far too early.

Skins stays outlined by a shortage concepts and a disheartening lack materials; the way by which it’s patched collectively is just the crushing cherry on high.
