  • Sounds Like Nashville

Indeed, for the most part, the bold, swaggering persona is what propels Skeletons, but the handful of tunes that let off the gas pedal a bit while introducing a bit of melody and introspection best offer the moments where the duo seems to truly flesh itself out to a complete degree.

Maybe it's true that Brothers Osborne aren't quite for everyone, an admission they shrug off early on the album, but the great thing about Skeletons is how it sounds like they're appealing to wide quadrants of rock, pop, country, and Americana audiences without sounding like anything but themselves.

  • Your Life in a Song

Finishing with the laid-back, touching ‘Old Man’s Boots’, it completes a wholesome, well-rounded collection that is simply a joy to stick on repeat. It’s difficult to compare three very different albums from Brothers Osborne so far, but this is probably at the top of the pile.

  • Think Country Music

With Skeletons, they have raised the bar so high, it’s going to be interesting to see what they can do next. I can only think of one way to close this, and that’s by saying this album had better grab up some award nominations at the very least. Everything about it is right. Everything.

This album was not bad, but if Brothers Osborne wanted to gain more awards in the country music genre, this was not the album to do so. It is almost as if they threw each song together to get an album out before a deadline, no matter the quality.

Brothers Osborne have put themselves squarely on the country music map. And Skeletons is only going to cement that more.

  • Saving Country Music

If Skeletons is the true essence of the Brothers Osborne, that means they’re not really a country duo. But it also means they’re not really that bad. And compared to whatever else you have to contend with out there on the mainstream country radio format, you’d much rather see them out there sticking it to Florida Georgia Line, and offering something actually listenable when the wife, husband, or co-worker switches to the corporate country station.

Admittedly, I am not a country music connoisseur but I understand and appreciate the genre far more than other music styles I reject. As such I fully enjoyed the first half of Skeletons far more than the second half, though, in relation to what constitutes a solid country music album, Skeletons completely fits the bill.

At a time when much country is more top 40 than Honky Tonk, they’ve gone the other way, and on “Skeletons” they have found their true voices.

  • Complete Country

The amount of musical deliciousness this album brings to our ears makes it tough to pick favourites. Every song is unique and out of control in the best musical way possible. It’s a country album you can rock out to or relax to. It’s a vibe no matter what way you’re feeling the moment you put it on.
