It’s an exciting project that shows off Uchis’s ability to perform in Spanish, as well as her ear for instrumentals. Aesthetically, the project draws inspiration from late ‘90s and 2000s fashion, and it does a good job of reflecting that sonically. It’s an exciting step in Kali Uchis’s career, and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

On her first Spanish-language LP, the Colombian American singer eclipses crossover appeal with a moody, hopscotch pop take on the boleros, reggaetón, and Latin soul of her youth.

This album doesn’t feel much like Uchis’s artistic step-up, her Norman Fucking Rockwell or El Mal Querer, but more like a suck-it-and-see step on – a hastily released album that suggests her best is yet to come.

All in all, Uchis’ new album is a teaser for the many types of music she can make but chooses not to. While the record could have been a full immersion into Latin genres, here, Uchis decides to keep Sin Miedo in her comfort zone. The soothing melodies she is known for are not necessarily bad, but in her latest release, they fail to showcase her versatility. For now, one can only wait until she is ready to completely step into new genres — and perhaps come out with a full bolero or energetic reggaeton album.

Colombian-American singer Kali Uchis dropped one of the best alt-R&B albums in recent memory with 2018’s “Isolation,” and she brings a similar sumptuous vibe to her first Spanish-language album, “Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios).”

Ultimately, Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) might be one of Kali Uchis' best and boldest albums yet. The vibes and sound are sexy and empowering, accompanied by lyrics that are both nostalgic and new age. I recommend a listen (even if you don't speak Spanish).

The main takeaway from Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) ∞ is that Kali can still write great material while singing in a completely different language – if that was ever in doubt. It isn’t as impactful as Isolation, but there are plenty of moments on this record where Kali shows great potential that she may yet make that truly fantastic Spanglish R&B album.

Kali Uchis’ sophomore album is a well-crafted, long-awaited, interesting, satisfying step in an artistic journey – one that artfully balances change and continuity.

The instruments synchronize with Uchis, and Uchis synchronizes with the features. The beats synchronize with the instruments, and together, Kali Uchis weaves a symphony of somewhat darker emotion in Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) ∞, which is an excellent album to start to close the year out on.

It’s equal parts heavenly and sinister. Respect her. Be wary of her. Most importantly, keep your eyes on Kali Uchis.

Sin Miedo the new album released by Colombian-American singer and songwriter Kali Uchis, is a prime example of exotic music that carries an infectious energy at its core. Not only through her angelic voice, but through the synchronisation of dreamy, melodic sounds that transition into floaty, hip-hop reggaeton as the songs progress through the album.

Uchis' unwillingness to be pinned down to one genre is both exciting and effective. While the LP might keep the majority of its gems in the first half of the track-list, there aren't really any duds in the mix at all. Sin Miedo stands out as one of 2020's more unique R&B releases. An exciting chapter in Kali Uchis' career, woven together by lush production and charismatic vocals.

Uchis’ affirmation against predictability certainly rings true here, even against the lauded impressions on her debut LP of 2018 - with Sin Miedo showcasing a vocal and linguistic prowess which will vehemently uproot the West's English-driven love affair.

Overall, the album has a very baroque feeling to it (and I mean this in the best way possible, minimalism is overrated!). The songs are textured with a lot of different melodies, tones and moods. ‘Sin Miedo’ offers such a diversity of content, references and rhythms that I don’t know what you are waiting for… go listen to it!
