From the very first cut, the punishing double-bass and machine-gun riffing of “War Ensemble” was a call to arms – Slayer were back, still the leading titans of metal, and the idea that they would ever release a weak album? Unthinkable! This band was an incorruptible, unstoppable force or, so it seemed at the time.

Seasons in the Abyss is a very solid record that holds its own against the stiff competition. With its intensity, aggression, and other classic Slayer elements the album should be a very welcome addition to any thrash-head.

It is not only an essential Slayer or thrash metal purchase but essential to the collection of anyone with even only the vaguest interest in metal whatsoever. No length of review can do this album justice, I can only recommend that if you don't already own it you should buy it immediately and listen to it over and over again.

A nearly classic album from the all-time classic unit that is Slayer. A must buy for any fan of more extreme and aggressive metal. Go forth and grab the black magic of 80s Slayer.

Seasons doesn't have quite the freshness of its predecessors, but aside from that drawback, it's strong almost all the way from top to bottom.

Sometimes what makes an album great is the memories it encapsulates. When you hear it, or think of it, it takes you back to a different time. “Seasons In The Abyss” holds such a memory for me.

Seasons… ultimately ends up being a solid, but too often pretty lackluster album.

While this album carries all the basic elements of the Slayer formula, it loses some of the momentum and wisdom behind previous choices, creating an album that was not fully ready and not really where the band wanted to take their music, but still a strong contender in the way the late middle albums of Iron Maiden remained solid despite some disorganization.

it's a perfectly worthwhile way to spend your time if you're really pissed off at your parent (or guardian) and think that serial killers are neat.
