RUBBER SOUL
| The BeatlesRUBBER SOUL
Rubber Soul is the sixth studio album by the English rock band the Beatles. It was released on 3 December 1965 in the United Kingdom, on EMI's Parlophone label, accompanied by the non-album double A-side single "Day Tripper" / "We Can Work It Out". The original North American version of the album was altered by Capitol Records to include a different selection of tracks. Rubber Soul met with a highly favourable critical response and topped record charts in Britain and the United States for several weeks. -Wikipedia
Critic Reviews
Show All-
Pitchfork
2009 - The Beatles' first undisputed masterpiece is their quietest and most folky record, reflecting the influences of contemporaries like Dylan and the Byrds.
-
Rolling Stone
2015 - If there’s a theme, it’s curiosity, the most Beatlesque of emotions, and specifically it’s curiosity about women, the most Beatlesque of mysteries to be curious about.
-
BBC
Rubber Soul demonstrates how The Beatles, with Martin in tow, were beginning to exploit the recording studio – afterwards, boundaries were to be pushed. And where The Beatles led, other rock and pop acts soon followed.
-
The Guardian
2015 - Rubber Soul has a strong case for being the most concise and the most complete Beatles album.
-
Ultimate Classic Rock
a sign that the adorable moptops the world had come to love over the past couple of years were gone and replaced by four grown men
-
All Music
the lyrics represented a quantum leap in terms of thoughtfulness, maturity, and complex ambiguities. Musically, too, it was a substantial leap forward
-
The Telegraph
2009 - The songs themselves are like little Pop Art vignettes, where the lyrics are starting to match the quality of the melodies and arrangements
-
NPR
2005 - It was 40 years ago this month that the Beatles began recording Rubber Soul and forever changed the sound of music.
-
NME
2015 - Rubber Soul’ remains the most satisfying listen in The Beatles’ canon: full of variety, full of struggle. At its best, there’s a perfect balance between tradition and experimentation
-
50 Third and 3rd
2015 - The awareness that an album could be more than just a collection of songs had more to do with Rubber Soul than any other album of that era.
-
Neon Modern Times
An album with so many ridiculous highs that they could have been many a bands’ greatest hits collection. Instead, this was just the beginning of things to come for the Beatles.
-
Hokey Blog!
2014 - firmly entrenched in the upper echelon of classic and important rock albums, but it’s also a damn great one as well, a magnificent album experience from start to finish

The great thing about Rubber Soul is that it’s for everybody.

2017 - but I can't help but feel that Rubber Soul, as a whole art-piece album, has a certain unity and cohesive magic that the other albums don't necessarily have

2015 - Rubber Soul is a good album, but certainly not the Beatles’ best.
-
Ultimate Guitar
2018 - The thing I like most is their perfectionism and mind for detail. The tracks are cleaner than the previous recordings and the rhythm isn't just strumming on multiple stringed instruments. ... Simply, a simple masterpiece.

7th Level Music
I like how it bridges the gap between their bubble gum stuff and their complete psychedelic freak-outs.
-

2016 - every song is great, every performance is great, the whole package is perfect and it is still pop music with a little twist of the future in it. There’s no flab, no waste

The Rubber Soul album is a major artistic achievement by a band with an experimental style and influence that reaches beyond the musical realm.

2009 - To review this record’s brilliance is like telling someone how awesome the Grand Canyon is. It’s there for all to see and you can’t help but marvel at its brilliance. No words can describe it, and certainly no review can pay justice to it.
