Rocket to Russia

Rocket to Russia is the third studio album by the American punk rock band the Ramones, and was released on November 4, 1977, through Sire Records. Its origins date back to the summer of 1977, when "Sheena Is a Punk Rocker" was released as a single. That summer was known as the peak of the punk rock genre since many punk bands were offered recording contracts. The album's recording began in August 1977, and the band had a considerably larger budget with Sire allowing them $25,000 and $30,000; much of this money went toward the album's production rather than recording.-Wikipedia

A similarity to their previous releases, the lyrics integrated humor, black humor if I had to point it out, circling mental disorders and psychiatry. -2017

Sire, sensing the potential imminence of a hitherto unlikely hit, invested a grander budget, and in compositional terms the band were getting better. --2017

From the opening blast of "Cretin Hop" to the finals strains of "Why Is It Always This Way?," it is as solid an album as the band would ever make, with many considering it their best.

It doesn't have the revolutionary impact of The Ramones, but it's a better album and one of the finest records of the late 1970s.

Despite the band's reputation for embracing nothing more musical than adrenalin and attitude, Rocket exhibits subtle melodic influences, most notably from surf rock and 1960s pop. -2014
