Rift
| PhishRift
Rift is the fourth studio album by the American rock band Phish, released on February 2, 1993 by Elektra Records. The record is a concept album, detailing the experience of a man dreaming about the rift in his relationship with his girlfriend. It is the second time that the band had recorded an album with such a central concept, the first being the rock opera-styled The Man Who Stepped into Yesterday from 1987, which has never been officially released. Rift was recorded in September and October 1992 and produced by Muscle Shoals music veteran Barry Beckett. Rift was certified gold by the RIAA on October 15, 1997. -Wikipedia

Sputnik Music
please, at least give this album a try. If you enjoy appreciating art for the sake of art, abstract expressions, or just having a different experience, you may too find yourself drifting off. May the dream be one.

All Music
The concentration on thematic unity tends to rob Phish of the loose spontaneity that makes them unique and makes Rift a bland, tedious listen.

The Absolute Sound
The pressing quality of the reissued vinyl is remarkable; the playing surface is very quiet, and the CD’s slight hard edge is gone. Most striking is the background clarity: the drumming especially is a lot clearer.

Phish Thoughts
While each of their future albums took on a certain character of its own, you will find few that will argue with Rift as the most intriguing Phish album of all time.
