Each song feels so expertly crafted, and it feels like the song placement was a process that Ben Platt has perfected. The placement of each track made the album feel cohesive, which is something we always look for. We have many songs we’re ready to highlight, but we have to say, the album as a whole is a solid ten out of ten.

The same can be said for most of the record. Not only does it not knife you in the heart the way Sing to Me Instead did, but it just feels like a half-hearted and almost immature attempt at emotional vulnerability. Those are two adjectives I would have never predicted using to describe a Ben Platt album. Reverie’s strongest offering remains “Imagine”, allowing us to imagine future releases where Platt’s talents are properly displayed.

He is a more than capable artist with a captivating voice that demands to be listened to. He shares emotions and experiences with a frankness that makes them utterly accessible. REVERIE picks up where SING TO ME INSTEAD left off, ensuring Platt's follow-up album is anything but a sophomore slump.

Overall, I loved the album. It was very different then his first album was. I can wait to see what other music Ben Platt comes out with.

Ben Platt's second pop album, Reverie, maintains the intimate, longing tone of his debut while adding electronic elements like programmed drums, vocal processing, and prominent synths to its hyperreal production design.

There are reoccurring interludes titled “king of the world pt.1”, “king of the world pt. 2” and “king of the world pt. 3” that break the album up into a beginning, middle and end. This can be compared to the sequence of a musical theater show, which is no coincidence.
