REVELATION

Revelation is the thirteenth studio album by American rock band Journey, and their first with lead singer Arnel Pineda. It features 11 new songs ("Faith in the Heartland" was previously recorded with Steve Augeri), 11 re-recorded greatest hits (all featuring Pineda) and a DVD (North American version only) featuring the current lineup's March 8, 2008 concert in Las Vegas, Nevada. Three singles penned by Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain were released to radio: the distinctively Journey-sounding "Never Walk Away," "Where Did I Lose Your Love," and the power ballad "After All These Years." "Where Did I Lose Your Love" and "After All These Years" both found success on the adult contemporary charts; "Where Did I Lose Your Love" peaked at No. 19, while "After All These Years" peaked at No. 9 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart and stayed on the charts for over 23 weeks. -Wikipedia

But this double-CD set, which also includes a live DVD, features the most unlikely Perry sound-alike yet: Arnel Pineda, a 40-year-old Filipino who spends an entire disc delivering note-for-note remakes of classics like “Don’t Stop Believin’.” On the second disc, Journey also pull off a tribute-band coup: some damn good originals.

The most admirable thing about this mammoth three disc package is that Revelation’s strongest part is the brand new material.

With “Revelation” the band has chosen to not only give you a full album of new music, but also an additional CD of re-recorded, or “re-visited” classic numbers as done by the bands roster of 2008 and a full length concert DVD that covers both worlds.

yes, the album is new songs, but they sound very similar to all the great Journey songs you know and love. They all have that arena rock punch along with a couple of sentimental ballads, just like on their old releases.

Revelation isn't quite a classic, but it's as close as the band has got to one since Perry's departure.

The band's new sound is incredibly put-together. They sound revitalized with Arnel at the helm and when I went and watched the DVD, I could see why.
