Remember when Snoop jumped to No Limit just as that ship was sinking? This Star Trak release is, quite sadly, a little like that. And of course, its title is awfully misleading.

Snoop is fierce throughout Rhythm & Gangsta and putting "Masterpiece" in the title isn't hyperbole.

To say that Snoop Dogg has merely influenced the popular consciousness does him a great injustice.

Snoop's voice, still in good form, seems to ride over the well-constructed beats rather than become a part of them.

Snoop possesses one of the most distinctive voices in rap, but it's often rather limited in scope and texture.

It's little wonder the album is subtitled Masterpiece for, in terms of Dogg's CV, it comes pretty close to achieving this status.

Snoop created a great album here, one I personally consider a classic and one of the most smoothest albums to listen to in the 2000s. Revisit this and enjoy.

Snoop Dogg's self-professed Masterpiece only intermittently comes close to matching its grandiose title.
