Precous Memories Volume II

Precious Memories Volume II is the eighteenth studio album and the second gospel album by American country music artist Alan Jackson. It was released on March 26, 2013 via Alan's Country Records and EMI Nashville. The album is a follow-up to Jackson's 2006 album Precious Memories. Of the album, Jackson said, "Denise and I had made a list of 30 to 40 songs to do for that first album. We had so many that we didn't get to, I thought we'd go in and do a few more just the same way - heartfelt and simple."-Wikipedia

June 11, 2013. Like Volume 1, the feel is raw and rural. The instrumentation, heavy on piano, organ and acoustic guitar, is appropriately sparse. As before, Jackson delivers these songs with dignity and ease, keeping the lyrics up front.

March 26, 2013. . . . this second volume is stark and bright, sounding as contemporary as the day it was recorded. This transparency doesn't hurt this collection of familiar hymns . . . but this does mean that the album doesn't feel quite as warm and cozy as its predecessor. Nevertheless, this is a reverent, resonant spiritual album distinguished by its sweet sincerity.

March 20, 2013. "Precious Memories Vol. 2" (like its predecessor) is Jackson's quietest record to date. Hushed, reverent and scantily clad with Jackson's warm tenor and nothing more than just an acoustic guitar, an organ, a piano and harmony vocals. Such a deliberately intricate sound brings out an intimate, emotional and personal side of Jackson that we hardly encounter when he lets loose and rocks on his charted hits.

April 10, 2013. Judged on its own merits, Precious Memories, Volume II is a very good album. It doesn’t hold its own when compared to the first volume, but in all fairness, expecting it to do so is setting impossibly high standards.

April 9, 2013. With stark acoustic arrangements focusing the project on the album’s testimony, Alan delivers a deeply personal devotional on Vol. II made up of traditional hymns and Southern Gospel.
