  • NME

2017 - ‘Pacific Daydream’ is all carefree, expertly crafted pop, free of irony and all the better for it. Lock the doors, crack open a cold one, and enjoy an endless summer with Weezer.

  • Consequence of Sound

2017 - Pacific Daydream just happens to be very shiny middle ground, reminding us that somewhere in Rivers Cuomo, there’s still an East Coast kid listening to the radio and fantasizing about life in Los Angeles. For the band to be at its full potential, though, the songwriter needs to reflect more on the takeaways of experiences rather than the moments themselves.

2017 - It’s disappointing, then, that this impulse of creative energy has resulted in a record that feels flat and strained.

2017 - its best moments – “Weekend Woman” could be Weezer’s “Good Vibrations” with is everything-but-the-sink hooks and a catchy, Lady Gaga–like bridge – gamely make up for the places where Pacific Daydream sounds like Weezer by Numbers

  • Pretty Much Amazing

2017 - At the end of it, this record is a mixed bag. Fans of Weezer’s poppier side will find plenty to like. Whereas fans of Weezer’s more well regarded records will wish they chose another producer.

2017 - These songs demonstrate the precise flourishes that have always marked his music but often go unheralded: his ease with nimble, catchy hooks; the effortlessness with which his songs build momentum; his ear for harmonies, which does indeed owe a debt to his beloved Beach Boys.

2017 - With at least half of these songs, there is almost nothing to say, nothing to be baffled by, nothing to argue about, and for that sad, whimpering reason, Pacific Daydream can probably be called Weezer’s worst album.

2017 - The lyrics add up to little more than cheese ball pickup lines ... Weezer have had their share of ups and downs over the years, but Pacific Daydream finds them at their most clunky yet.

2018 - These songs are not cool. These songs are, however, very catchy. They are well-written corporate pop-rock by a band that may or may not have always done so, but we were too young to notice.

2017 - Its effort is admirable as the band continues to churn out music after music until the right one sticks. “Pacific Daydream” feels like a filler — before something much greater.

2017 - Pacific Daydream is caught in between two worlds: on one hand, the record is a superb pop record full of windows-down summer anthems; on the other hand, it’s a subpar Weezer record which does little to satiate fans longing for the 90s-style riffs and structures that marked the so-called ‘return of Weezer’ between 2014 and 2016.
